French toast from my childhood
Ingredients
For
6
personnes
- 6 slices of country bread (stale)
- 1 egg
- 20 cl of milk
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil from Provence PDO
- 1 pinch of salt
- Sugar
Tip
For this French toast recipe, we recommend using PDO olive oil from Provence for its notes of grass and raw artichoke, which can be complemented by hints of banana, hazelnut, fresh almond and tomato leaf. There may be a hint of spiciness on the finish. You could also use one of these PDO olive oils: Aix-en-Provence, Nîmes, Haute-Provence, Corsica – Oliu di Corsica, Vallée des Baux-de-Provence. Why not give our recipe for French toast with mirabelle plums a go?
Instructions
- Vigorously whisk together the egg, milk and 1 tablespoon of PDO Provence olive oil.
- Dip two slices of bread into this mixture (they must be thoroughly soaked).
- Heat the oiled frying pan, place 2 slices of bread in it, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side (soak the remaining slices in the meantime).
- Place the cooked slices on a plate, sprinkle with a little sugar, set aside (keeping them warm by covering them with aluminium foil or an upturned bowl) and cook the remaining slices.
- Enjoy the French toast whilst it’s hot or warm.

We recommend...
For this recipe, we recommend a PDO huile d'olive de Provence (intense taste), for its aromas of herbs and raw artichoke, which are sometimes complemented by notes of banana, hazelnut, fresh almond and tomato leaf.
If you don’t have any, then opt for an PDO huile d'olive d'Aix-en-Provence, a PDO huile d'olive de Haute-Provence, PDO huile d'olive du Languedoc, PDO huile d'olive de Nîmes, PDO huile d'olive de la Vallée des Baux-de-Provence or PDO huile d'olive de Corse – Oliu di Corsica.
