- To make this recipe for chocolate cakes on the barbecue, you will need:
- 200g dark chocolate
- 100g of traditional-style olive oil
- 200g of sugar
- 5 whole eggs
- 50g of wheat flour
Tip
For this chocolate cake cooked on the barbecue, we recommend an olive oil from Provence – PDO ripened olives, from the Vallée des Baux-de-Provence – PDO ripened olives, from Aix-en-Provence – PDO matured olives, or an ‘old-fashioned’ style olive oil or matured olives… The olive oil chocolate cake can also be made with courgettes: give it a go and treat yourself! Why not also try the olive oil chocolate cake with a surprise raspberry centre!
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate and sugar over a low heat in a small saucepan. Add the traditional-style olive oil and stir. Remove the saucepan from the heat, then add the eggs. Mix together. Fold in the sifted flour, then mix the mixture vigorously.
- Lightly grease the baking tin with olive oil, then fill it with the chocolate mixture. Leave it to rest in the fridge until ready to bake.
- Prepare the barbecue for medium indirect heat.
- Place the tin in the centre of the grill and cook for 20–25 minutes using indirect heat. You can check whether it’s cooked by inserting a toothpick or the blade of a knife: they should come out clean.
- Serve the cake hot or warm.

We recommend...
For this recipe, we recommend a PDO huile d'olive de Provence - olives maturées (traditional taste) – for its aromas of black olives, candied fruit, woodland and/or toast.
If you don’t have any, then opt for the PDO huile d'olive d'Aix-en-Provence – olives maturées, the PDO huile d'olive de la Vallée des Baux-de-Provence – olives maturées, or the PDO huile d'olive de Corse – Oliu di Corsica – récolte à l'ancienne.
